Our mission
The Jeanne Bowen Cancer Foundation is an independent non-profit organization with a mission to accomplish preventative care and a cure for pancreatic cancer in our lifetime by providing crucial funding for clinical and genetic research for top medical and research centers throughout the world as well as raising public awareness for this deadly disease. A minimum of 80% of the funding donated will go to our research, awareness, and patent services programs. Our foundation was established in December 3rd 2005.
Pancreatic Cancer is the fourth leading cause of Cancer death. The American Cancer Society estimates that 32,180 Americans (16,100 men and 16,080 women) will be diagnosed with Cancer of the pancreas during 2005. Over the past 15 to 25 years, rates of cancer of the pancreas have slowly dropped in men and women.
An estimated 31,800 Americans (15,820 men and 15,980 women) will die of pancreatic cancer in 2005, making this type of cancer the fourth leading cause of cancer death overall.
Only about 23% of patients with cancer of the exocrine pancreas will be alive 1 year after their diagnosis; only about 4% will live 5 years after diagnosis. Even for those people diagnosed with local disease (has not spread to other organs), the 5-year relative survival rate is only 15%.
We are setting large goals to reach and we will reach them with our many dedicated volunteers and supporters that work effortlessly on reaching ours goals. We can only hope that we will live to witness a cure for this deadly and painful disease.
