Who is Jeanne Bowen?
Jeanne Bowen was a native of Los Angeles County. She was the first born of Ella and Richard Lambeth, and had two other sisters Peggy and Carol Ann. She was married to John Bowen for 42 years and they both had two children, Tiffany ANN BOWEN and RICHARD T BOWEN. To know Jeanne, was to love Jeanne!
Jeanne was a very giving person. If someone was in need, Jeanne never hesitated to open her home or to try and help them even if it meant she would go without.
Jeanne was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2005. She became a part of a group study experiment with Herbatux, as well as, chemo treatments at St. Jude Cancer Hospital. Unfortunately, by the time she was diagnosed the cancer had spread and these other treatments were to no avail. They switched her treatment to oral chemo, but the cancer progressed to the liver.
Each office visit was always met with hugs from all the employees, and a big smile for the doctor even through her prognosis was not good. Life, which we often take for granted, can sometimes be upset by an unwelcomed terminal diagnosis.
She had faith in God that sustained her as she was going through her cancerous battle. She had confidence that God was in control and nothing was happening to her but what God had a bigger and better plan for her.
She taught those who watched, hope, faith and love. We might be helpless, but we were not hopeless.
Even when she could hardly get out of bed, let alone go to the appointment at the hospital, she insisted on going. She had developed yellow jaundice, yet was determined to go one final time and she did.
What an amazing woman she was. Dr. Lawler reviewed the final stages with her. From a medical perspective, it was over. Yet, Jeanne looked at her long time friend, and gave a wink as if to say, "It's OK!" She was a light of hope for others to see.
Jeanne succumbed to pancreatic and liver cancer on March 4, 2006. We may think she lost the battle, but actually she won. Even though her body was cancerous, God took her home to a complete healing and life with Him.
The Jeanne Bowen Cancer Foundation was established by RICHARD T BOWEN in honor of his mother and to carry on the spirit of giving to others in a similar situation. At the time of her original diagnosis, Jeanne's family was going through tremendous financial upheaval. They had lost their home, and basically didn't have insurance or funds available to provide for the treatments or medicine to meet her daily needs.
This foundation's goal is to continue to reach out to men and women in similar situations and help them get the assistance they need. We are never ready to know what tomorrow holds, but the goal and plan of this foundation based on Jeanne's life, is to reach out and give what we have. Please feel free to contact us.
